Mouth of the Klamath from Requa view point.
There are five myths about Northern California:
1. It extends from Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula.north through San Francisco to the Wine Country.
2. There are some redwood trees there, most of them in Muir Woods, Marin County.
3. The state ends at Eureka in the north, a handful of miles.beyond San Francisco.
4. Oregon begins at Eureka.
5. Sequoia sempervirens means "evergreen."
The truth is, San Francisco is the "top" of mid-California. Beyond The City, the Redwood Highway (101) runs 362 miles north to Crescent City at the Oregon Line. When you leave Eureka, you still face 84 miles of beauty within California. The tallest redwoods (including what is known as the tallest tree in the world) stand in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Sequoia sempervirens means "ever-living."
Indeed, they are.
....Come wandering with me in the sunny uplands, the redwood-shaded valleys, along the wave-beaten cliffs and through the art-filled villages of the real Northern California. We'll go on a new adventure on the first of each month.
